BSC was once again represented at the CBB Annual Inter-school Drama Competition 2017 (The Council for Business with Britain in association with the British Council). This was a wonderful opportunity to showcase our students' talents and the depth of dramatic exploration within our IGCSE Drama course.
Five students from the Year 11 Drama class performed The Intruder
a nineteenth century symbolist play by Maurice Maeterlinck about a family waiting for a mysterious visitor through a dark night.
The preliminary heats were held on Sunday 1st October at the BSC Auditorium, and by all accounts their atmospheric performance left the audience spellbound!
There were some exceptional characterisations from Liana Lawrence as Ursula the innocent daughter; Udara Kularatne as the blind but psychic Grandmother; Findlay Tattersall as Oliver, the cantankerous Uncle; Theekshana Nawinne as Paul the benevolent Father and Aritha Aariyapala as the arrogant Servant.
They were assisted by an equally talented technical crew of
Hana Sangani & Kayla Collett on make-up, Nirek Panditha & Rex Nanayakkara on sound plus Tevan Buell & Thaqib Hussain on lighting
If BSC are successful on making the finals, then we will join the remaining schools for the competition at 6pm, Bishop's College Auditorium on Sunday 15th October. Fingers crossed!
Performing repertoire (a scripted play in front of audience) is also a major component of the practical coursework for the IGCSE Drama course and these students and the others in Year 11 Drama are also presenting the play again for their submission to Cambridge.
