British Values
At BSC our ethos reflects the four key British Values defined by Ofsted as:
- Democracy.
- The rule of law.
- Individual liberty.
- Mutual respect for and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs and for those without faith.
We believe that the BSC values reflect and encourage these British values. Our school values promote an understanding of Britishness. The BSC values ensure that our students care for themselves, those around them and achieve the best they can academically. Our values allow students to develop an understanding of ethics, show they are respectful and that they are engaged in the world around them:
- At all Key Stages students have regular exposure to PHSE where these values, along with other PSHE topics are explored, embedded and re-visited.
- Our students are organised into four houses. House membership directly links into British values as students are taught a sense of democracy when voting for representatives to take part in events and when encouraging participation in discussion and debates. The students’ involvement in house activities ensures they have full engagement in school life and a keen sense of awareness around social responsibility.
- We have several scheduled whole school, cross phase events such as ‘United Nations Day’ and ‘Earth Day’ where students are given a deeper understanding of both local and national issues.
- We hold weekly assemblies with School leaders or Heads of Year where many of the British values are addressed and re-addressed.
- The school is involved in several charity events throughout the year, including working with local hospitals, orphanages and ecological groups.
