Since its inception, the British School in Colombo has maintained an emphasis on ensuring it’s students are aware of, understand and appreciate the rich and diverse cultures of the remarkable island nation of Sri Lanka and the rest of the world.
Each year, the school celebrates key events in the national and international calendar that include Chinese New Year, Deepavali, Sinhala and Tamil New Year, Vesak Ramadan, Eid and Christmas by learning about the significance of each festival in whole-school presentations.
The school’s own student population is made up of over 53 nationalities with students from all over the world, which creates a strong culture of respect for all. All nationalities are celebrated at the annual whole school United Nations Day when all students dress in their own national dress, participate in learning activities from all over the world and enjoy an international food festival.
