Environment Week in the Senior School

General Senior

The Senior School celebrated Environment Week from June 5th to 8th June. The theme for this year’s Environment Week was #Beat Plastic Pollution. While there was always an effort to segregate waste at school as part of Greening the Purple, a special emphasis was laid on Zero waste this week. Students looked at simple measures they could incorporate that would lead to a better, cleaner environment.

On 7th June, Ms. Pavithra Attanayake conducted a session on Urban Wildlife and the Impact of Plastic Pollution on Urban Fauna. Ms. Pavithra is an environmental educator, conservationist and zoologist by passion. She currently works at the Wildlife and Nature Protection Society of Sri Lanka as the Project Lead of their Youth Wing. She shed light on the challenges faced by our urban ecosystems because of plastic pollution, and how this affects the delicate balance of nature in our cities and towns.

The students gained a comprehensive understanding of the challenges faced by urban wildlife in the wake of rampant plastic pollution. This session has empowered the BSC family to be more mindful of our actions and take steps to preserve the delicate balance between urbanization and the natural world.

The Environment society members have been working on creating the display board as part of the awareness campaign on plastic pollution. The members enjoyed a quiz for the KS3 members after school as well.

A photography competition was announced on the Topic: Transformation which is open to Senior school students.

The students also took part in an Art competition on the themes Story of a Turtle and Polluted Ocean organized by the Pearl Protectors as part the World Ocean day celebrated on 8th June.
