Different schools have many different names for the school years, below you can find our list of age categories used at the British School in Colombo. Year groups for students are based on the English National Curriculum.
Our school begins at the Junior School with our Foundation Stage, consisting of Playgroup, Nursery and Reception. The Junior School includes Key Stage 1 (Year 1 and Year 2) and Key Stage 2 (which includes Years 3, 4, 5 and 6). After the Junior School, children pass to the Senior School which includes Key Stage 3 (Years 7,8 and 9) Key Stage 4 (Years 10 and 11) and finally Key Stage 5 (Years 12 and 13).
