It is always a wonderful start to the week when we are able to celebrate further success for Senior School students. On Monday, we were able to present a further impressive array of medals, certificates and awards for outstanding success at a range of national level sporting, artistic and creative endeavours. I am always humbled by the fearless determination of BSC’s young people who compete and succeed at such a range of competitions of national repute. In doing so, they are surely winners, not only in their events, but also as inspirational individuals who encourage their peers and friends to follow in their footsteps. Congratulations to you all. Your school is immensely proud of you.
Monday also so the launch of the ever-popular ‘BSC’s Got Talent’. Taking to the stage in the Auditorium on Friday 15th December, the upcoming sixth instalment promises to be bigger and better than ever! I encourage all students to audition for this wonderful end-of-term event. This event once again highlights the manifold skills of BSC students who come together in a programme of varied and wonderful performance. I am ever impressed not only with their bravery and ability, but with the marvelous sense of accomplishment that our performers demonstrate both on stage and as members of the skilled technical and backstage crews. I very much look forward to ‘Season 6’ and I wish you all well in the upcoming auditions. I must thank Ms Shamistha, Ms Peshani and the Sixth Form Committee for ensuring that this year’s event is another success!
As we continue to embed on the Cambridge Learner Attributes, we have, as you know, been focusing on notions of being responsible for ourselves and others this half-term. Taking responsibility for our belongings is a vital part of ensuring our daily success: making sure that we have what we need for each lesson; looking after our equipment and keeping it safe; arriving punctually to school and to each class; ensuring that all tasks and assignments are complete. All of these things are key to ensuring that students are fully equipped and prepared, mentally and practically, to achieve their best. I encourage all parents to regularly check planners and exercise books to ensure that all students are approaching classwork and homework tasks responsibly. I also remind parents to ensure that all belongings must be clearly labeled with student’s full name and Tutor Group.
I would like to thank those of you who were able to attend the Michaelmas Term Parent-Teacher Conferences held on Thursday and Friday. I sincerely hope that as students and parents you are clearly aware of individual successes and achievements accomplished over the last eight weeks of term. Likewise, I hope that these meetings allowed students, parents and teachers to set specific targets for continued development and progress in the weeks ahead. Once again, this is all about taking a responsible approach to learning.
I remind parents who were unable to attend that my team and I would be delighted to organise alternative appointments for you to meet your child’s teacher. This can be done by emailing your child’s Key Stage Coordinator: Mr James Sergeant (Head of Sixth Form) on [email protected]; Mr Kevin Rajamohan (Key Stage 4 Coordinator) on [email protected] and Ms Dilini Wijesinghe (Key Stage 3 Coordinator) on [email protected] . On the other hand, if you would like any follow-up appointments, please do not hesitate to contact us.
I hope you enjoy this edition of ‘The Lion’.
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
