Year 3 have been busy following the Write Stuff since August and have written some wonderful stories. Our Sentence Stacking lessons are organised into three learning chunks and there are also Experience Days to help children stimulate ideas. Then sentences created by pupils were celebrated and their examples were used to form a large class Sentence Stack on our English Working Walls. We started off by looking and a non-fiction text (non-chronological report) and found out amazing facts about a Pangolin. We then moved onto fiction, Star in a Jar and recently to writing a myth. Right now, we are looking an explanation text (The Street Beneath My Feet) and finding out fantastic facts about rocks and soil.
Children really enjoyed experiencing a maze and creating their own mythical creatures after we read Theseus and the Minotaur. They have worked hard to grasp the features that have been modelled to them by the teachers and came up with some wonderful myths. We have looked at using similes, alliteration, personification, pathetic fallacy, fronted adverbials, speech, openers, conjunctions and the ‘who’ clause. While some of these features have been challenging, the children persevered and used them in their own stories too which shows how hard Year 3 have been working the past few months.
