Lion's Mane

Lion’s Mane began as the first official student-run newsletter of the British School in Colombo and has since been a small but still significant part of our school's history. For this school year of 2022/23, we have reinvigorated the spirit of the Lion’s Mane into a meticulously planned and specially prepared series of editions that we hope will represent all the values, achievements, thoughts, and memories we all share at school as students.

Our hardworking team composed of executives, editors, designers, interviewers, and content requisitioners all play crucial roles in bringing a fresh new look to the Lion’s Mane. Each edition released every term attempts to reflect what makes attending BSC so special by including achievements of the student body, school news, updates on extracurriculars, contributions from past alumni, and a range of articles that gives a snapshot of everything that goes on in the world today. In the Michaelmas term, we released the first edition for the school year, which managed to build a great interactive reader base through the launch of our very own website, https://www.bsclionsmane.com/ .

So, you may ask, what’s new? What have we changed specifically, and what do you have to look forward to? Well, besides launching a website, the Lion’s Mane newsletter will go on to include quizzes, along with competitions and ways for you, as students of BSC, to submit content. This year we have worked very hard to make a newsletter that we are passionate about. We hope to expand on student-led contributions to hear more about what you would like to read because the Lion’s Mane has always strived to provide intriguing content, for students, by students.

Our goal is to inform our colleagues and faculty about local and international news while promoting social consciousness as, our school places an emphasis on mindfulness. We will be changing the themes of our newsletter with each new edition to reflect modern cultural issues or noteworthy events. Our first edition, "Tis the Season," was published to honor the widely observed holiday, Christmas. Our upcoming edition, "Tip of the Iceberg," will be released to raise global warming awareness, and reflect on how our actions affect the steadily increasing sea levels. We intend to involve every student in our school, regardless of age group, and raise awareness on significant issues and news, while also making the experience entertaining with our new looks, interactive activities, and student-based competitions.
