The 21st of August, 2020, was a day eagerly awaited by the Year 7’s not only because they were meeting their friends after 5 months past the lockdown but also because it marked the beginning of a new chapter in their life- their entry into Senior School. The Year 7’s lined up patiently keeping the ‘new normal’ norms of social distancing and keeping face masks on. The Form tutors greeted the tutees and soon they moved to their tutor bases. The year 6 team were invited to speak to the students and who were happy to see their teachers. During the day, students collected their books and stationery and engaged in varied Form activities including creating a Form Charter displayed in the Tutor bases.
The first and lunch break saw the students welcoming the new students and getting to know the teachers even better. The students had a fun English lesson which was followed by a Treasure Hunt activity organized with the aim to familiarize the students with the different parts of the Senior school.
This activity exhibited teamwork, co-ordination and communication as the teams had to encode a cryptic code to identify a phrase. The next part of the day was spent setting a SMART goal both academic and behavioral by the student followed by a Year Group assembly.
The end of the day line up for dismissal saw happy, content and a wee bit-tired year 7s who were eager to come back to school. The warmth of their smiles and inclusive nature confirmed the beautiful memories and strong relationships that had now begun.
