Year 11 students, parents and teachers gathered in the quadrangle on Wednesday to explore the right pathways and ask the hard questions to inform their decisions on choosing their A level subjects.
“I want to be a doctor but don’t want to put all my eggs in one basket”? “I love drama but will it help me get into University to do History”? “Will I have time to balance 4 A levels and my extra-curricular commitments”? Some of the great questions asked by year 11 students.
It was inspiring to see so many students and parents at the open evening. The considered nature of everyone’s enquiries shows a student body that takes their studies and as a result their futures very seriously, even at this early stage.
BSC’s ever committed senior staff were on hand to provide non-biased advice in a collective endeavor to provide tailored advice to individual students.
Once an understanding of the A level courses and what to expect was gained all retired to the auditorium to listen to pearls of wisdom and tokens of advice from the 6th form team and the school leadership. Dr Scarth spoke of loving one’s subjects. Mr. Sindall of academic excellence and the mystery that the future may hold. Mr. Sergeant provided students with confidence, in the knowledge that they’ll be supported through University applications. While Mr. Rusling spoke of aspirations, excellence and ownership.
The new electronic format of application was explained and Mr Jones outlined how the 6th form will be at the vanguard of launching BSC toward a technologically integrated, world leading school. The Bring Your Own Laptop initiative that will be universally rolled out in August 2020, starts with all prospective 6th form students hooking their laptops up to the school network as soon as possible.
At the end of an evening full of information, students and families left with a clearer picture of what to expect and with a better idea of how to make their A level subject choices.
