This week in Key Stage one, the children loved starting their topics for this term. They’ve been exploring the corridors, which have been transformed into the books we will be studying in our literacy lessons over the next six weeks.
In Year 1, to support the teaching of the book ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’, the children went on their very own bear hunt! They were swishing through grass, squelching through mud, swimming across a river, stumbling through a forest, swirling through a snowstorm, before finally reaching the bear in a cave. This has brought the book to life and inspired the children to order and write sentences using finger spaces and punctuation.
In Year 2, the children took on very important jobs as ‘Island Detectives’! A spaceship had crashed in the school, so the children explored the scene to work out what had happened. When we looked at the front cover of the book, ‘Beegu’, the children discovered that Beegu had in fact, landed in the corridor outside. The children have been so engaged with their writing this week and everyone is excited to see what will happen next. We haven’t found where Beegu is hiding yet, but the children can’t wait to discover where she might be…
