The Debating Society of the British School in Colombo took their finest debaters to the University of Colombo this past weekend to participate at the Prestigious Law Faculty Debating Championships which have been the highlight of the Debating Calendar each year!
Our team consisted of Husein Esufally, Prisha Satwani, Sara Mehrotra and Theekshana Nawinne. The students were at the Law Faculty on both days from 7.30 am till 7 pm, and the results of the first day were astoundingly good!
They faced very tough teams like Gateway Negombo, St. Thomas’ College, and St. Peter’s College, and by the end of Day 1, Team BSC were on three wins!! This was a marvelous team effort, and saw us debating into Day 2 to try and break into the knock-out rounds. Day 2 was just as good with the competition getting far tougher, and we just narrowly missed out on breaking into the Quarter Finals!
The feather in our cap was the performance by our Society President Husein, who secured his position within the National Pool of debaters in Sri Lanka! He will now train and do his best to be selected into the National Team, thereby representing the country at the world stage.
I could not be more proud of what our debaters have achieved, and we now train and look forward to debating at the upcoming Ananda College tournament in March.
