Year 4 recently visited Ranweli Eco Village, Negombo as part of our 'habitats' topic. We have been looking at different animals and plants and investigating what they need in order to survive and thrive. The trip was an excellent opportunity for the children to look at everything we have been learning about first hand and the trip really gave the children a real life insight into habitats and different environments. The children's behavior and manners were exemplary throughout the trip and they were a credit to BSC.
"OUR GREAT TRIP TO RANWELI ECO VILLAGE"
A few weeks ago Year 4 embarked on a wondrous trip to the Ranweli Eco Village, just passed Negombo. We traveled up there on the school bus full of excitement for what was to come. Upon arrival we were transported across the lagoon on a large raft which was powered and steered by a man with a huge bamboo stick. We were rowed across the calm lake to the hotel on the other side. We were split into two groups, one of the groups went on the nature walk whilst the other group went to the lagoon to go on a boat ride. During the nature walk we started with an introduction to the coastal plants. We were then taken to the jungle where we saw mud crabs and many beautiful butterflies. We were looking at their different habits and what they need to grow and survive. We then went on the boat ride where we saw many different kinds of birds and even a water monitor lizard or two. Finally we had a lovely lunch, finished our ice creams and said our goodbyes to Ranweli, but not without another ride on the raft.
