For the past few weeks the students of Year 6 have been excitedly preparing for the first ever Christmas Market. A lot of the excitement stemmed from the fact that the students were raising money to buy much-needed stationery, books, toys and food items for the patients and their families at The Lady Ridgeway Hospital.
Last Friday the students sold a range of homemade items such as cake, biscuits, stationery, book marks, soap, jewellery and Christmas cards. As part of the process, students had to organise their products, prices, selling area and count the money they made before handing it over to their class teacher. This is an opportunity for students to develop attributes such as responsibility and confidence as well as a sense of ownership in knowing their individual efforts will make a difference.
Year 6 want to take this opportunity to thank all their Junior School peers and teachers for their support in raising more than Rs. 112 000.
The Year 6 community project will be ongoing, and we look forward to sharing some more updates soon.
