It is a pleasure to introduce this week’s edition of The Lion.
Dr Scarth, Mrs Wells, Mrs Boyd and I were delighted to welcome parents to the special Assessment Workshops in Wednesday and Thursday. These workshops followed on from our initial meetings earlier this term where we launched the suite of GL assessment tools. As all students in the Senior School have now completed the CAT 4 Tests (Years 7-10) and the Progress Tests in English and Maths (Year 7) and in English, Maths and Science (Years 8 and 9), the reports will shortly be sent home to you.
Our workshops explained how to read and understand the reports for your child. Particularly significant is the individualized Pupil Profile that gives specific constructive suggestions as to how best your child’s progress and learning at home in the months and years ahead. We also believe that the information provided on the reports will allow us all to have more personalized strategic conversations with you and your child to ensure the best progress. We introduced the significance of the target grades at the end of Key Stage 3 and for the eventual IGCSE and A Level Examinations. These targets ensure that as a home-school partnership we are setting ambitious expectations and working together to ensure every child’s highest achievement.
If you have any questions regarding these reports, please do not hesitate to contact us at school.
It was also a pleasure to meet parents who joined the British School community recently at the special meeting for new families on Thursday morning. I know that you and your children will be very happy here at BSC and I reiterate our very sincere invitation to contact us any time you have any questions or concerns.
We are making final preparations for the annual Inter-House Athletics Competition taking place at Sugathadasa Stadium on Monday 12th November. I remind parents that this is regarded as a normal school day and that all students are expected to attend.
I extend a warm welcome to you all to come along to enjoy the day with us at the stadium to see our remarkable young athletes in action. They are an inspiration. I look forward to seeing you there.
With sport in mind, I wish our tireless swimmers every success as they represent BSC at the annual Inter-International Schools Swimming Competition taking place this weekend at Sugathadasa Pool. I am immensely proud of each of our squad members for their tireless preparation, determination, bravery and prowess. Go Lions!
I wish you all a wonderful weekend.
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
