A weekend of success set the tone for the new week!

We celebrated the success of our Under-14 Boys Football Team who made it to the Semi-Final of the Inter-International School’s Football Tournament on Saturday morning. Alongside this, we celebrated the skills of our debating team who represented the school at the weekend’s debating challenge at Elizabeth Moir School and emerged quarter-finalists in each competition against some tough, seasoned competition. Congratulations to our players and our debaters; your determination and success provided an inspirational tone to the week!

I must also congratulate members of our Environmental Society, who delivered a memorable and thought-provoking presentation, reminding all of us of our role in protecting the local and global environment. Well done and thank you to our presenters.

It was a pleasure to welcome Year 13 and Year 11 back to normal lessons on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively. Our public examination candidates have had a very busy Mock Examination period. Subject Teachers are now completing examination paper marking and will be compiling full Mock Examination Reports for all students in Year 11 and 13. These will also be supported by Parent-Teacher Conferences later in the Lent Term. I, as ever, urge parents to contact us at school if you have any particular concerns regarding the approaching IGCSE and A Level Examinations. The weeks ahead are vital in terms of securing individual success for our students.

On Wednesday afternoon, it was a pleasure to welcome Year 9 students and their parents to the annual IGCSE Options Fair. This is an important first step in a structured programme that helps out students make confident and informed choices about their IGCSE subjects as they look toward beginning Year 10. I am grateful to all parents who were able to attend. Once again, to all Year 9 parents I remind you that my team and I would be delighted to help in any way if you have any concerns or questions.

As I type, the Senior School looks forward to the annual Inter-House Cricket Competition to be held at Thurston Grounds on Saturday 28th January, beginning at 9.30am. This is always a wonderful event and I know we will all be treated to some top class cricket. It would be a pleasure to welcome you to the grounds to support our players and their Houses. Our tireless PTA team has organised refreshment stalls to keep players and spectators on top form throughout the day. I do hope to see you there. I must take this opportunity to thank the PTA for kindly supporting this event once again.

I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion! Have a wonderful weekend.

With best wishes,

Simon Harwood

Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
