Last December, groups of Bronze-level entrants left for Sinharaja Rainforest for a two-day, one-night expedition in order to fulfill their practice requirement for the Qualifying Journeys schedule for February this year.
The first set of teams set out early morning on Saturday 16th December 2017 accompanied by Mr Tharaka and Miss Dilasha. The second set of teams set on Monday 18th December accompanied by Miss Chathuri and Miss Kaushalya.
Both groups camped in Kalawana, near the rainforest and used the Kalawana entrance to hike into the forest each day from their campsite. The students put into practice what they learned during their in-house and field training, while familiarising themselves to a rainforest environment. Each student had their own individual focus project to be completed during their time in the forest, while also working within their team to support each other and achieve their team goals.
While this pre-journey is a requirement to complete their Adventurous Journey component in the Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award, the students also learn, experience and appreciate life-changing skills and team spirit in a challenging, yet enjoyable environment.
We look forward to these young adventurers completing their qualifying journeys successfully in February this year.
