It is hard to believe that we find ourselves at the end of the Michaelmas Term already! How quickly sixteen weeks have passed and what a great deal has been achieved. As we looked toward the final week of the term, BSC students, true to form, showed no sign of slowing down. Rather a busy and productive week has been had by all in the Senior School!
Our week began with a tremendously powerful presentation by the Environmental Society, that reminded each of us of our responsibility to safeguard our planet in our day-to-day activities. Giving us a timely reminder of the importance of recycling and the significance of promoting sustainability in our lifestyles, the presentation gave us all a great deal to think about. This was an inspirational presentation, not simply because of its content, but it was also a reminder to all of us of the innovative ability of BSC students and staff whose initial vision a year ago has become a successful and thriving team. Well done to you all!
Wednesday saw Christmas festivities continue as we gathered as a school community for our annual Christmas Concert in the auditorium. This was a wonderful programme; with seasonal songs and carols performed by the Junior and Senior School Choirs, readings by members of the school community as well as lots of opportunities for audience participation, celebrating the Christmas season by joining together to sing lots of traditional Christmas favourites! I must thank Ms Shanistha and Ms Anupama for making this annual event such a wonderful event once again and I thank all parents and friends who supported the concert.
I remind parents that the Lent Term After School Activities are now open on the Parent Portal to allow you to confirm your child’s choices for the term ahead. Choices must be confirmed by Thursday 4th January 2018. I also remind parents that End of Term Reports are also available on the Parent Portal rather than being distributed as hard copies as in the past. Please do contact us if you have any problems accessing the Parent Portal as it is an excellent means of communicating information between school and home.
The week and the Michaelmas Term ended on a rousing note, with the highly anticipated staging of BSC’s Got Talent (Season 6). Having become a traditional feature at the end of the Michaelmas Term, this year’s show as a wonderful way to end the term, showcasing as it did, the remarkable range of skills and abilities BSC students demonstrate as remarkable performers. I applaud each and every one of our performers for their skills and their bravery as well as every member of the backstage and technical crew and organizing committee who have worked tirelessly to ensure the show was such an outstanding success. BSC, you certainly do have talent! I am very proud of you all. I must thank Ms Shamistha and Ms Peshani for their support of this event.
In the final assembly of the Michaelmas Term, we also paid tribute to students who maintained 100% attendance over the course of the term. This is outstanding. I do hope that you keep this up in the terms ahead. You are an inspiration to your friends and colleagues.
I would like to thank you all for your very kind contributions to our tireless Support Staff. The hampers you created were distributed to the wonderful members of staff who support the school’s endeavours in so many ways. I am extremely grateful for your generosity and support of this British School tradition.
It’s been another busy and successful term. I thank you all for your tremendous support of the school. I look forward to building on our achievements with you in 2018 as school opens for the Lent Term for all students at 7.30am on Thursday 4th January.
I wish you all a safe and happy holiday, with complements of the Christmas Season.
Enjoy this edition of The Lion.
Best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
