The ECA programme for the Academic Year 2017-2018 started on Monday 4th of September 2017 with many new and exciting opportunities to explore, experience and challenge our young learners. The ECA Catalogue published for the first time detailing the very extensive repertoire of sports, clubs and societies offered in the Senior School, allowed students and parents to make informed decisions on choosing ECAs for the Michaelmas Term.

Mondays:

Cookery Club with My Yohan has been quite popular. Unfortunately, we cannot accommodate all membership requests until our Home Science Room is expanded.

The Sign Language Class is quite a fixture in the Library Mezzanine with a committed student body attending every Monday.

So far, the visiting teachers from the Central Federation of the Deaf have been teaching the alphabet, numbers and sports to our learners who want to master another language that would certainly build bridges with vulnerable communities in the future.

The Kandyan Dance Troupe with Mr Isuru have had a different focus this term as our dancers gear up to perform at the Asia Pacific Choir Games this October.

Hopefully, we will see more Kandyan Dancing in the second half term.

Tuesdays:

The Aviation Club is going steady as the Club Leaders guide and work with members on various interests in the field.

Highlights for this half term being participating in the District Aviation Quiz and watching a favourite movie of our young Aviators.

The story of the brave Captain Sully Sullenberger who glided his disabled plane to land on the Hudson River, saving all 155 lives on board.

The Environment Society has started working on a great project to replant trees in the Thalawathugoda Wetland Park. The key members have been busy with organizing fund raising activities this half term. We will be looking forward to a bake sale and a movie afternoon to raise funds to buy plants and necessary materials to support the cause. We wish all the best to staff and members of the Environment Society in this worthy eco-community project.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award is going strong with over 40 new Bronze Entrants to the programme.

The students have been busy with their planning and online registration and ORB training this half term. The new Bronze Entrants will also start on their Adventurous Journey training this half term.

The Slightly Philosophical Society with Mr Tim is new and has already generated a buzz in school. With a growing following, we are sure to see more of this ECA in the coming weeks.

Wednesdays:

The Scrabble Club with Mr Geeth has set out on a mission for matches this term.

The first set of friendly invitational games are scheduled for Wednesday 11th of October at 2:00 PM with Bishop’s College teams. All the Best BSC Scrabblers.

The members of the new radio club BSC Air has been learning about all things radio from code to audio mixing this half term.

With visits scheduled to the Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation coming up, we hope to take up web radio very soon.

Thursdays:

The BSC Maths Circle has developed a broader and more solid platform for all things mathematical and we have plans for a site visit to CINEC and an in-house OLYMPIAD competition.

The Interact Club members with Ms Tania are busy organizing the Installation Ceremony coming up in November and working on both new and continuous projects.

The new STEM Club with Mr Fergus has seen some action this half term with our budding young researchers following their interests in the Sciences, Technology, Engineering and Mathematical fields.

Fridays:

The Garden Project members with Ms Chandima have been active in learning to grow Orchids this half term.

Apart from sporting activities, we have 27 active clubs and societies this term. Stay tuned on the BSC Senior School ECAs as we bring more news next half term.
