The recent Vesak assembly led by Ms Chthuri, Mr Champika and Ms Thushara was a hugely inspiring event. This year, the focus was on the concept of 'Self' as explored through a powerful Dhamma verse: "One is indeed one's own refuge. What other refuge can there be? With oneself well controlled, one finds a refuge hard to attain."
During the assembly, pupils were reminded of the importance of self-awareness and self-control in their daily lives. The presentation emphasized the power of one's mind and thoughts in shaping one's choices and actions, and the importance of taking responsibility for one's own happiness and well-being.
Through the teachings of the Dhamma verse, students were encouraged to seek refuge within themselves, rather than relying on external factors to bring them peace and contentment. This is a valuable lesson that can be applied to all aspects of life, from academic pursuits to personal relationships.
Overall, the Vesak assembly was a reminder of the power of mindfulness and self-reflection, and a call to action for all of us to take control of our own lives and strive for inner peace and happiness.
