The Volunteering Committee, an initiative started by Raveesha Fernando is an ardent endeavour to provide equal opportunities for all students above key stage 4 to pursue volunteer work. Understanding the current situation in the country, applying for community service and internships has become increasingly difficult. The committee enables the student body to build a sense of community and follow through with our social responsibilities as citizens of Sri Lanka by working together. One of our key goals is to allow for all students to recognize the importance of contributing to society while gaining the benefits of diverse working and learning conditions. The Committee aims to make this process as convenient and accessible as possible to the students of BSC, eventually hoping to expand to collaborate with other schools to bring the joys of supporting communities and organisations across the country.

This Wednesday, the Volunteering Committee conducted an extremely insightful volunteering fair. We hosted 8 different organisations who presented varied and unique opportunities for students to volunteer. The students from years 9 – 12 were given the chance to meet with different representatives from each organization to allow the students to clarify what the organisations do, and the causes they aid generously. The Committee aspires to build more interest in volunteering for organizations, not only for the invaluable working experience gained, but for the betterment of the local environment.
