It has been a busy term for Year 4; amid numerous science experiments, hands-on activities, and enjoying all of the fun activities and intense learning, we found some time to pre-visit the Colombo National Museum to gather vocabulary and information to support forthcoming topics in English, humanities, and science.
The enriching visit to the National Museum delighted Year 4 students. We enjoyed looking at clothes from the Dutch, Portuguese, and British eras. While strolling and observing the marvelous artefacts from invasions and settlements during this time period, they were full of questions and awe. The museum's innovative use of new technology piqued their interest. The best part was being awestruck by the museum's special features, which included plants and animal specimens that are endemic to Sri Lanka, including rare, and those threatened with extinction. Mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, fish, amphibians, various plants, and geological rocks were among the specimens on display. The skeleton of a giant blue whale, which is displayed in the museum's Geological section, piqued the Year 4 students' interest. They were very interested in taking detailed notes about everything they saw in the museum. They were astounded by the display of various details and descriptions engraved on swords used by kings and warriors in the past. Overall, it was a fantastic learning opportunity and experience.
