It has been an action packed week of sport with our students participating in many events across Colombo. It is always a joy to watch our students give their all; exposure to regular participation is so beneficial for our young athletes, not only for their performance but for their own personal development.

This weekend our swimmers participated in the prestigious Inter International Swimming Meet, held at Sugathadasa. The team finished 9th overall achieving 8 medals, 3 Golds, 4 Silver and 1 Bronze. We had many outstanding performances and even though not all our swimmers received medals, 13 students achieved their personal best and qualifying time, for me that’s a win in itself. Well done to Ayush Wijethunga on winning a Gold Medal in the 100m Backstroke and a Bronze Medal in the U14, 50m Backstroke.
On the same day as the swimming we had athletes competing at the Colombo District meet at Torrington. The standard of competition was high but once again our students gave their all. Congratulations to our two medal winners. Annesha Dodanwela won a Gold in the U18 High Jump competition jumping 1.35m, a superb effort. Sadara Hettiarachi achieved a Bronze in the U18 Javelin event. Congratulations to all the competitors and with more exposure to Athletics Meets I am confident our team will continue to grow and improve.
Our U17 Cricket team participated in the U17 TISSL competition and produced some tremendous performances. Unfortunately, they were knocked out in the quarter final stages vs Royal Institute. Although they were disappointed they know they are a talented team. learning from a defeat and losing with dignity and respect is just as important as a win. Well done to the U17 team for all their hard work and efforts.
Our U13&15 boys Cricket teams have started their preparations for upcoming tournaments. Their start has been impressive with victories and a draw in their opening friendly matches. I am sure they will go from strength to strength.
The Netball season is also underway and again off to a good start. Our team managed to win against Horrizon Academy and highlighted their potential for the season ahead.
Well done to all involved with BSC sport, we have achieved a lot so far but will continue work hard to develop and improve.
