From the 21st to the 25th of March the senior school celebrated Science week! The science department had arranged several activities to inspire students.
In assembly, students learnt about how some of the great technological innovations of our time, from mobile phones to autonomous cars, were first postulated by science fiction authors decades ago. It then took the creative and innovative minds of scientists and engineers to see the possibility and make them real.
In morning form time, students were introduced to Ranga Diaz, Asha de Vos and Melony Mahaarachchi, three truly inspirational Sri Lankans that have forged careers in areas from “Rocket Science” to “Whale Conservation”.
During lessons, students were involved in a number of practical experiments designed to bring the WOW back after two years of practical restrictions. Staff demonstrated the science behind the pulse jet engine, as well as some gas bubble chemistry and the well-known “Elephant’s toothpaste”. Students were able to get involved in launching their own water rockets outside on the basketball court. After being restricted for so long it was fantastic to see students getting hands on with science again.
