Reflecting on the start of term, the overriding impression of our learners is their kindness and consideration towards everyone in the community.
Kindness is potent. Being kind makes us stronger. Kindness is essential in developing relationships and deep understanding of each other. Research shows that kindness and our well-being are connected. The research shows that kindness is an solution to loneliness, helps create a feeling of belonging, and helps to reduce stress. Kindness to ourselves is also critical – it is important that students reflect on their contribution to school life, and are proud of the role they play in our community. Some of our students are currently thousands of miles form the school building, stranded due to the global pandemic. They are, however united with their peers digitally.
This week, Miss Jehan initiated the ‘Here But Not Here’ project, bringing together members of our community stranded abroad. I would like to pass on our best wishes of all staff and students to this small group of learners and thier families. You are very much a part of our community. Thank you for all your hard work online. We are looking forward to having you ‘here’ in Colombo very soon.
