From 29th to 31st January, Year 6 enjoyed their annual trip to Kithulgala. Residential trips are an important part of the school curriculum as it provides students with opportunities and experiences that sometimes cannot be recreated inside the classroom.
In Kithulgala students undertake many team-building experiences which help to form new relationships and friendships, as well as allowing students to develop skills like collaboration and communication especially as they are placed in situations where they need to encourage and motivate each other.
Students were also challenged, for example when they completed the 18km hike to Belilena Cave, which helped them to build resilience and achieve feats that they might not have achieved before.
Below some Year 6 students reflected on what they learned about themselves on the trip.
Kithulgala was extraordinary!
To begin with the cabins at the camp were really big and spacious, it was so comfy - we wanted to stay there for days! The food was delicious and there was always a large variety.
We did activities like:
Canyoning: It was really exhilarating and pushed us over our limits. The last jump was big but our courage helped us to achieve it.
Hiking: The 18km hike to Belilena Cave but long and exhausting but it was worth the experience!
Floating down the river to camp: It taught us how to stay calm under pressure.
Kithulgala was an experience we will never forget.

What did we learn during our trip to Kithulgala?
In Kithulgala we learned many valuable skills. We developed skills such as leadership, teamwork and patience and so much more. We took part in many fun activities - we did canyoning, hiking and land activities. The hike was very tiring but we had a growth mindset and didn't give up. We also learnt the importance of nature and that we are all equal.
