The Debating Society has seen an even greater surge in numbers this year, as we meet each Thursday in three different classrooms to accommodate our increasing group of enthusiastic public speaking hopefuls!
Prisha, Theekshana, and Sara are doing an incredible job of spear-heading Society training sessions, and Sharmane, Shanelle and Theruni are always on hand to help them whenever possible. This excellent exhibition of teamwork is, and has always been, the Society’s strength, and our Debaters are in the most capable hands.
Earlier this month, two teams consisting of Theekshana, Prisha, Senruni, Dhanika, Imadh, Samirah and Wineth represented #TeamBSC at the well-established Stafford International School Debating Championships, the first of many more competitions for this season. Barring Theekshana and Prisha, the rest of our students were all Novice, and found themselves excited yet nervous to enter their first public speaking tournament outside of school.
With over 40 teams participating, our teams did exceptionally well to defeat tough teams such as Gateway, Royal College and AIS, however, just lost out narrowly when it came to breaking for the Quarter Finals and final day of debate.
For a first time competition, this was an impressive performance, and saw our confidence levels soaring, well in time to train for our next Competition this coming weekend at Ananda College.
The Dr. N. M Perera Debating Shield is a prestigious one, and our two teams representing the school consist of Theekshana, Dhanika, Imadh, Wineth, Himayath and Sanhida. I wish them all the very best of luck, and know that they will do BSC very proud indeed! Let’s spend another productive weekend together doing what you do best: debating! 😊
