A delegation of 20 students led by the Society Office Bearers, Theekshana Nawinne and Prisha Satwani represented the British School in Colombo at the prestigious National Youth Model United Nations Conference held at the Hilton Hotel on the 19th and 20th of October this year.
Our delegation consisted mainly of Novice delegates, all armed and ready with a passion for public speaking, which was translated into cultivating sheer talent by the end of this weekend.
Delegates from BSC heard the Hon. Prime Minister of Sri Lanka, H.E Ranil Wickremasinghe, speak at the Opening Ceremony, and Conference came to a close with the Hon. Speaker of the Parliament, Karu Jayasuriya, giving all delegates profound words to think about at the Closing Ceremony as the Key Note Speaker. Our delegates were also fortunate enough to be a part of the QnA session with the President of Sri Lanka, Hon. Maithripala Sirisena, who interacted with the delegates at this Conference and answered some very tough and pertinent questions posed by our youth!
It was an immense honour for our delegates to be presented their awards by such important dignitaries, and congratulations are in order for the following students:
Special Mentions: Theekshana and Prisha for their amazing performances in the Security Council and UNESCAP
AWARDS:
Honorary Mention Award: Senruni Abeywickrema in GA 3
Best Novice Delegate Award: Imadh Mashoor in UNESCAP
BSC has started MUN Season off on such a high note, that the highest standards being achieved at this Conference will be our next challenge to replicate in all Conferences to follow!
I am so proud of all the students who have participated at this Conference and accumulated a wealth of knowledge and memories.
We next look forward to flying to Thailand to attend the FOBISIA MUN Conference with our team of delegates, after which the preparations for COMUN 2020 shall commence!
Well done #TeamBSC!! Keep making us all proud!
