On Wednesday evening the courtyard of the British School in Colombo resembled a marketplace, with each A Level subject holding an information stall to enlighten Year 11 students and parents on what their subject will entail at Advanced Level. There were colourful and informative displays from all departments, and for the first time at BSC, Mandarin A Level was also present.
Following on from the fair, students and parents attended a presentation in the auditorium where Dr. Scarth, Mr. Sindall and Mr. Sergeant explained what students should consider when making their choices. Students were challenged to research their chosen careers thoroughly in order to make sure that their subject selection would allow them to progress meaningfully to university on completion of A Levels.
Year 11s are now required to complete their ‘Initial Preference Form’ and return to Ms. Su Boyd on or before Wednesday 6th February. Option blocks will then be created based upon the preferences of the Year 11 cohort, and each student will need to return their choices to school in late March.
The evening marked the start of an exciting time for Year 11s, when they begin the process of seriously planning their future pathways through education and on to their chosen career. We wish them well on this journey, and the teaching staff of the British School will always be available to advise.
