This term in Year 2, our Humanities topic is ‘Famous People’. We are focusing on people who have changed the world from across the globe and this week we have learnt all about the inventor of the telephone, Alexander Graham Bell.
The students learnt facts about the inventor and investigated how the telephone has changed over the years. We looked at lots of different types of telephones from past to present and sorted them into two groups: ‘old’ and ‘new’. We discussed how phones have changed since Alexander Graham Bell first invented his in 1876.
In partners, the children were engaged in making their own telephones using cups and a piece of string. They explored how the sound travelled from one cup to another, discovering that the string had to be pulled tight for the sound to travel!
We’re looking forward to learning about more famous people who have changed the world over the course of the term: Mother Theresa, Neil Armstrong and Malala.
