On Friday 18th January, a group of 19 young Mathematicians from The British School in Colombo left for Singapore to take part in the Extended round of South East Asian Mathematical Olympiad (SEAMO X -2019). The exam was held on Saturday 19th January. It was great to see 850 students of 15 different nationalities and different age groups ranging from 8 to18 years in the large the Suntec Convention Centre, Singapore. Children got an opportunity to visit Science center, Snow city and Gardens by the Bay on Saturday after the examination. We visited Universal Studio on Sunday morning and children enjoyed different rides including transformers 3D ride, Battlestar Galactica, Revenge of the Mummy etc.
It was a proud moment for us to see all of our students getting merit awards on Sunday evening at the award ceremony held at Resort World Convention Centre Sentosa. Praveen Athauda-arachchi of year 5C received Gold Medal with Global Ranking 1 in category B amongst students from 15 countries. Vivek Sivaramakrishnan of year 12B received the Silver Medal in Category E , Dilari Surasinghe of year 8A was awarded the Silver Medal in Category C and Senal Arsecularatne of year 5A received the Bronze Medal in Category B. The Merit Awardees are Thilmi Pinidiya of year 4A, Joshua Jospeh Jins of year 4A, Rehan Naguib of year 5B, Nathan Samuel of year 5B, Selina Arsecularatne of year 7D, Shetraa Krishna Kanthan of year 7B,Yoshitha Fernando of year 7C, Sai Ashwinaa Surendran of 7C, Adithya Thewarathanthri of 9D , Suyeon Lee of 10B, Sharuni Silva of 10C, Rithesh Kithudasa of year 10C, Tanuri Halhaturage of year 10D ,Kavinda Subasinghe of year 12B and Pehan Ambawatte year 13C. Congratulations to all medal winners. It was an amazing experience for all of us to participate in such a wonderful International Mathematics Competition.
