BRONZE-LEVEL ADVENTURERS COMPLETE THEIR PRACTICE JOURNEYS FOR INTERNATIONAL AWARD

General Senior

This season, 31 brave adventurers completed two different trails in the dense rainforest of Sinharaja. While most of the school were still enjoying the last four days of their Christmas Holidays, the BSC Bronze Level Award Entrants hiked through the Sinharaja Rainforest from the Kalawana side in preparation for their final journeys in mid-February.

The Bronze teams camped overnight and spent a couple of days in the rainforest exploring the surroundings. All teams had their own team goal while each of the members worked on their personal focus projects.

The first two teams set out from school with Mr Toefl Lankapura and Miss Indira Attygalle on Thursday 3 January followed by three more teams on Saturday 5 January with Miss Celeste Ranasinghe and Mr Prasanna Heenatigala. The teams did their pre-training last October and later worked with Mr Fergus Whiteside on their route plans. They completed their First Aid training in December.

Neha Marjan (9A) shares with us, some of her observations on fauna and flora in the rainforest: endemic fish of the Rasbora species, macaque, wild ginger dug up by wild boar, various species of butterfly, Ratan trees, and trees as old as 400 years. Watch this space for more stories from our 2018-2019 Bronze Teams.

All teams returned safely to school before 8:00 pm on the respective return dates.
