Over the past two weeks the Year 6 literacy focus has been on biographies. The students have had the opportunity to read extracts from a range of biographies including that of Barack Obama and Queen Elizabeth II. After reading some extracts, the students analysed the structure and the language features of the texts with a focus on time connectives, subheadings and formal language.
The students then had the opportunity to conduct research on various famous people including Amelia Earhart and Neil Armstrong and as part of The Big Write, wrote the biographies independently.
During half term the students had to undertake a research on one of their family members and were asked to present the biography projects in a creative and innovative way. Even though the project is due next week, we have already seen a number of interesting PowerPoint presentations, posters and booklets.
