As part of book week, this week Year 4 took part in a peer reading session with Year 2 children. Both sets of children loved the time they spent with their peers. Year 4 children enjoyed scaffolding their younger friends, and this really helped to develop their own confidence in reading.
Children in Year 2 were excited to read and listen to the older children and were fully engage throughout. To start the session the younger children read to the Year 4 children in partners. This gave them some invaluable time to practise their reading techniques and explain their stories to the children from Year 4. The excitement generated by this was fantastic to see.
Following this, the older children read their favorite stories to their friends, hearing them talk about books in such a passionate way will surely have a lasting effect on the children from Year 2.
