It is a pleasure to welcome you to this edition of The Lion.
I must congratulate the industrious and positive way Senior School students approached the CAT 4 tests this week.
CAT 4 Testing
Following on from the series of workshops last week that introduced GL Education’s suite of tests, students in Years 7-10 completed the CAT 4 Tests between Tuesday and Friday. It was a pleasure to see how seriously our students approached this innovation. Testing will continue next week and until Tuesday 9th October for students in Years 7-9 who will sit the appropriate Progress Tests in English and Maths (for Year 7) and in English Maths and Science for Year 8 and Year 9.
The reports generated by this series of tests will allow teaching staff to focus on precise individual needs and strengths, allowing us to set challenging personal targets for each child in line with the School’s vision to ensure that each child achieves the highest academic standards. I remind parents that we will be holding further familiarisation workshops for all parents regarding these reports.
It was a pleasure to welcome parents of students in Year 7 and Year 10 who were able to attend the series of workshops hosted by Mr Jins Jose and the Mathematics team on Tuesday and Wednesday. These workshops outlined the syllabus for the respective Year Groups as well as suggested ways that parents can support their child’s learning of Mathematics. As you know, the close and positive nature of the home-school partnership is central to the work of the British School in Colombo and I know that Mr Jins and his team welcome your thoughts or feedback if you have any questions or concerns regarding Mathematics.
Parent-Teacher Conferences
I am delighted to confirm that the Parent Teacher Conferences for students in Years 7, 9 and 11 will take place on Wednesday 10th October 2018 and that the Parent-Teacher Conferences for students in Years 8, 10, 12 and 13 will take place on Thursday 11th October 2018.
Schedules have been sent to you via the Parent Portal along with the paper copies that have been given to all students by their Form Tutors.
I remind parents that students should only attend school on the relevant day to attend the meetings they have scheduled with their teachers. As always, students should accompany their parents and they should wear their usual school uniform.
My team and I look forward to welcoming you to school for these important meetings as we look toward the half-term and the rest of the busy Michaelmas Term.
I hope you enjoy this week’s Lion! Have a wonderful weekend.
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
