At the British School, we are committed in our vision that all students should achieve the highest academic standards. With this firmly in mind, it was a pleasure to meet many parents at the Principal’s Workshop introducing new assessment tools we will be using in both the Junior and Senior Schools from this term onward.
In the Senior School, we are delighted to introduce GL Education’s assessment package.
The Cognitive Abilities Test (CAT4), The Progress Test Series and the PASS (Pupil Attitudes to School and Self) will provide robust and standardised assessment tools that will allow us to more closely understand student potential and to ensure that ambitious targets are set for each student. The tests will allow all teachers to focus precisely on individual progress and potential in the classroom and to best equip individual students to achieve the highest academic progress.
Senior School students will complete the online CAT 4 tests between Tuesday 25th September and Friday 28th September. Schedules have been distributed to parents and students. The Progress Tests in English, Maths and Science will take place between Monday 1st October and Tuesday 9th October. Again, schedules have been distributed to students and parents.
This week’s series of introductory workshops will be followed up in November, when we will be inviting parents to information sessions on understanding the information presented on the reports generated by the tests taken. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns regarding this.
We enjoyed a wonderful Thursday, with the highly anticipated Inter-House Swimming Gala. Newton, Nobel, Scott and Shakespeare certainly ruled the pool with a show of outstanding spirit, sportsmanship and skill. I never cease to be impressed with the remarkable warmth and sincerity of the House Spirit demonstrated by BSC students. I congratulate our swimmers, supporters and decorating committees for making our Gala such a memorable one! I must thank Ms Simon Newbold and his team as well as Ms Champika and our House Teachers for making the event a possibility and a success once again. I would also like to thank the many parents who took time to support our swimmers and Houses. Your presence was greatly appreciated by all of us. I congratulate all of our Houses, and I salute this year’s winning House Newton House!
I hope you have a wonderful weekend. Enjoy this edition of The Lion!
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
