Parent Book Club Meeting discussing " Get Out of My Life...But First Take Me & Alex Into Town"

At our Parent Book Club meeting on Friday, we discussed the book with the rather catchy title Get Out of My Life...But First Take Me & Alex Into Town.  As you may guess, the book talks about dealing with teenagers.  Any conversation about raising adolescents is never boring, and this was no exception.  As well as wrestling with some of the interesting ideas in the book, we had an open and lively discussion as parents brought their often entertaining and challenging stories of dealing with their passionate, emotional, hormonal, defiant, complex children. 

Many of the parents who attended are not yet parenting teens, but are nonetheless preparing themselves for what is to come.  It always reminds me that there is so much we can do with how we raise younger children to prepare them and ourselves for the teenage years.   

I thoroughly enjoyed the session and I hope the parents who attended did too; I think I always come away with much more wisdom than I impart!  Thank you parents for attending and openly sharing your heartfelt, intuitive and intelligent insights. 

I know that we all benefit a great deal from the supportive, open forum available to discuss parenting challenges and victories.
