General Senior

Our Science Fiction themed Book Week certainly took us to a galaxy far, far away!

Launched by Sri Lankan State Literary Award and Gratiaen Award winning author, Captain Elmo Jayawardena, we were treated to an inspirational opening assembly followed by an extremely productive Creative Writing Workshop for our Year 10 students.

On Tuesday morning, we welcomed author Ashan Jayatilleke to school once again. In his presentation to the Senior School Mr Jayatilleke encouraged us as potential writers to explore the endless possibilities offered my imaginative literature.

This was followed by a workshop on creating plot-lines and improving structure.

Wednesday’s Science Fiction Quiz was welcomed by a most enthusiastic audience and was led by four fearless teams from Key Stage Three. Key Stage Three spent the rest pf Wednesday perfecting their short-story drafts and gearing-up for the Themed Classroom Competition.

It was a pleasure to welcome alumnus Thisuri Wanniarachchi back to school on Thursday to lead the final author’s presentation of this year’s Book Week.

We thank our judges, who supported our Poster and Book Mark Competition and we pass on our gratitude to the book stall proprietors who were present each and every day of our Book Week to promote literacy and a love of reading.

This year’s Book Week came to an end in a colourful themed competition that culminated in a memorable fashion show in the courtyard at lunch time!

Throughout our Sci-Fi Book Week, BSC fearlessly was unafraid to ‘go boldly’ where ‘no school has gone before’! We thank our English Teachers for their tireless work in making the week another success and we look forward to next year’s Book Week that will surely be ‘out of this world’ once again!
