Wednesday 28th of March 2018 was an exciting day for a group of BSCAir members. They visited three radio broadcasting stations: KissFM, VarnamFM and SiyathaFM run by Voice of Asia to learn more about radio broadcasting. They got to meet and talk with some experts in the field and see them in action. BSCAir members were also allowed to use the equipment and got the opportunity to be part of the live broadcasting in the two English and Tamil programmes. While BSCAir and the school appreciate the welcome from VOC, their time and willingness to help and advise our budding young DJs and radio operators, we also are quite excited to have seen, heard and been in action in not one, but two programmes in a matter of minutes.
Here are some reflections from our members:
"Going to the radio station was a very interesting experience and taught us a lot on the inner workings of what we listen on a daily basis. Visiting the radio station helped us understand the way of speaking, the technology needed to broadcast, how it is important to be focused and know when to speak . In the end, I learned that being Confident is the most essential aspect of broadcasting". Tharusha Cao, 10C
"Our trip to the radio station was amazing as i learned a few things from the DJ. We as a group learned a lot like what type of equipment we need to broadcast with, and especially how confident we need to be. We got to experience firsthand on how they broadcast, and we also watched the DJ broadcast live on air. We also got a chance to speak and it was a lot of fun. At the end of the day we got to know how they make it so easy when we are listen to them over the radio." Akash Watawana, 10B
"Visiting the radio station was really fun and intriguing for all of us. We learned a great deal about how radio broadcasts work, and we got to meet some DJs in person who told us how their job was like and they showed us a demonstration of them speaking live. We even got the chance to go live on air at the radio station, which was really cool. At the radio station, we learned what we need to be like to be a DJ and the style we have to have. Overall, I thoroughly enjoyed the visit to the radio station". Vidath Atapattu-Mudali, 7D
BSCAir members have been creating and recording their own programmes this term and we look forward to more action in air next term.
