A very busy weekend of sporting and other activities was enjoyed by many Senior School students last weekend. Along with the Inter-House Cricket Competition, many of our sportsmen and women were also involved in Football and Netball Competitions on Saturday and Sunday. At the same time, our debating team continued their busy range of events over the weekend in the lead-up to the ever-popular and demanding COMUN Conference later in the Lent Term.

The Annual Inter-House Cricket Competition, at Thurston Grounds, on Saturday was outstanding! A long-time favourite in the House calendar of events, we were blessed with beautiful weather and some outstanding Cricket. I must congratulate Mr Aruna, all House Teams, House Teachers, supporters and parents who made the day such a memorable one once again! It was a wonderful day! I must also thank our tireless PTA Committee who kept us all fed, hydrated and able to be on tip-top condition to support our players!

Our MUN delegates were equally busy and successful! Our delegates had a wonderful time at the first practice debate for COMUN at OSC, learning lots of important tips for success at COMUN and beyond. Sunday concluded the final day of the MUN Nation Crisis Conference, held at the Sri Lankan Institute of Information Technology campus in Malabe.

It was a pleasure to celebrate success for our Tennis players in assembly on Monday, who emerged as Champions in the Girls Category and the Boys B Team Category in the Inter-International School’s Under 20 Tennis Tournament. A great success for our players! We are very proud of you!

Friday saw our annual celebration of Sri Lanka’s independence as we gathered as a whole school to mark the 70th National Day of Independence in our Annual Independence Day Assembly. A wonderful programme of dance and song was organised and led by members of both Junior and Senior Schools. I am grateful to Ms Shamistha, the Senior Choir and Senior School Dancers for a wonderful event. I must also thank our Head and Deputy Head Prefects for leading what will be one of their final whole-school events of their Term-of-Office.

I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion. Have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Simon Harwood

Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
