Prefects’ Day 2017

General Senior

The day began at approximately 8A.M. subsequent to tireless nights of fretting and fussing over hula-hoops, decorations and nerf-guns. The theme of art was eminent as the prefect body, whether gifted in the skill or not, always had a paintbrush or a hot glue gun in our hands constructing the “building-blocks” to our ‘Back to the Future’ theme! With the unexpected showers of Sri Lanka’s unpredictable weather, we gad to remove and re-paste decorations in an almost comical nature with our very own, Principal Dr Scarth, helping us improvise to save the day- just minutes before our guests arrived.

The phenomenal event encompassed hard-working and talented prefects representing their schools from as far as CIS Kandy, to Moir. It was a fascinating learning experience for all of us to see their youthful minds take initiative in teams where most of the members had never met one another prior to the day. It was also captivating to see the entertaining challenges we set up being met with a diverse range of problem-solving that emitted sheer zest. To begin with strangers, and conclude with potentially life-long friends was certainly worth all the minutes of cutting up decorations or banners.

Across the school campus, we built and immersed our guests into the dimension of “Back to the Future” with sci-fi video games, complemented by tin-foil-wrapped “spaceships”, a truth-or-truth stop and the crowd-favorite of the day being the obstacle course in the common room. There was an alarm signaling the antagonists of our theme to commence a nerf-gun war which stemmed the last rush of endorphins before lunch. A spontaneous dance party broke out in the middle of the canteen where everyone bonded over belting out the lyrics to the most embarrassing songs of our generation. Personally, what warmed my heart was how the BSC prefect body orchestrated the event with such fluidity in articulating ourselves for example. As cliché as it may sound, an abundance of genuine love and excitement filled the atmosphere and therefore it will always be a day to remember.
