A wonderfully international flavour marked the final week of this academic year, with our delegates of the NUS Science Camp at the National University of Singapore returning home; our World Scholar’s Cup delegates flying off to their latest round of competition in Hanoi; our Commerce students departing for the annual NUS Commerce Camp and the BSC Cricketers looking forward to our inaugural UK Cricket Tour. It is wonderful that our fearless and intrepid students represent BSC at such a range of international events and competitions and put the British School in Colombo’s name firmly on the map wherever they may be! I am most grateful to all parents and staff involved for supporting our endeavours to augment our students’ learning outside of the classroom and away from the school building. I look forward to hearing all about these trips, competitions and visits next term.
Following last Friday’s wonderful Graduation Ceremony, members of the Senior School Staff joined the Class of 2017 at the annual Graduation Ball; a final event to mark their successful graduation. I would like to thank, on behalf of the staff, the members of the organising committee as well as every member of the Class of 2017 for a lovely evening.
The Senior School was abuzz with excitement throughout the week as final rehearsals for our annual ‘Enliven’ charity concert took place. Thursday’s event was outstanding! I am always both proud and humbled by the tremendous skills of our students who are such wonderfully accomplished performers. The evening was a wonderful way to end the year and was a credit to the vision and determination of our wonderful Interact Club, who have worked tirelessly to produce this event to support the charity of their choice. I must particularly thank Ms Lucky Attygalle and Ms Shamistha for their support of this event. Your performers did you proud! Thank you and well done everyone!
What an amazing year we have had! 2016-17 has been one characterised by so many innovations and so many successes in all areas of school life. I must thank our wonderful students, their parents, and our tireless staff; your continued commitment to moving BSC forward in every aspect of what we do is inspirational. Thank you all for making our learning community the very, very special place it is. To students and families who are leaving Sri Lanka, I wish you every success as you begin new chapters in your journeys.
I wish you all a safe and happy summer holiday!
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
