Developing Personal, Social and Emotional Skills in the EYFS

General Junior

A huge focus in Playgroup and Nursery classes over the last few weeks has been on taking turns and sharing. Teachers model good turn taking then observe the children attempting this independently in their play. Circle time reminders encourage the children of classroom expectations. We are seeing the impact of this focus during Continuous Provision play times where children have been interacting and negotiating confidently with friends, without adult intervention.

Personal, Social and Emotional development (PSED) supports children to learn to get on with others and make friends, understand, and talk about feelings, learn about ‘right’ and ‘wrong,’ develop independence and feel good about themselves.

We know that children learn best through play, so tune into this and use it to help them learn further about how relationships work. We encourage collaborative learning and support children in the EYFS to learn with and from their peers.
