The MUN Society of the British School in Colombo has already achieved many milestones since the academic year began last August.
Our fantastic students, led by Dhanika, Senruni, Oneli, Imadh, Wineth and Samirah competed at ACMUN 2021, and absolutely dominated the online Conference with their public speaking prowess. The following students brought back awards and special mentions and must be recognized for their spectacular efforts:
- Imadh (WHA) - Best Delegate
- Raveesha (ECOSOC) - Higher Commendation
- Dhanika (SC) - Higher Commendation
- Himayath (GA1) - 1st Honorary Mention
- Aditihi (ACSC) - Best Novice Delegate
- Ashwinaa (ACSC) - special mention
- Hanna (ACSC) – special mention
This splendid performance created just the momentum our students needed to begin their preparations for the largest Conference of the year, COMUN 2022.
Students from the BSC MUN Society interviewed to be placed on the prestigious Executive Committee (EXCO) of COMUN, and the following BSC MUN Stars were successful in their applications: Dhanika, Samirah, Imadh, Wineth, Danial and Kalathmi
Securing a position within the EXCO has always been such a highly contested process each year, and this year, BSC have the most number of EXCO members from any other school in Sri Lanka at COMUN. Dhanika in particular has done so well as “President of the General Assemblies” within the Secretariat, that he has kept the BSC MUN flag flying very high with his work towards this Conference so far.
After the EXCO were selected by OSC, BSCMUN held interviews to select our own BSC Delegation. The following students were successful in their interviews and are now gearing up for Conference next week, after having completed their first two rounds of online Practice Debates over the weekends in February: Himayath, Tiran, Ashwinaa, Diksha, Raveesha, Satya, Yuvinka, Zoran, Siluni, Hanna, Furqan, Shenara, Nitara, Sasini, Oneli, Gulalay and Nysha.
These students have been training diligently each week for a Conference they will undoubtedly take a plethora of knowledge away from during the weekend of March 4th-6th.
MUN Conferences online have ensured that BSCMUN still have the opportunities to interact with students from across schools in Sri Lanka and establish a wealth of connections and bonds which will hold them in good stead throughout their lives.
We hope that next year, the experience is able to happen face to face again, and be even more enriching and memorable. I am so proud of all the work everyone has put in so far, and wish all of #TeamBSC the very best of luck!
