We would like to thank all of the Year 7 parents who attended the ‘English at Secondary School’ workshop on Tuesday (14th) morning. We hope you found it informative and it was great to receive your feedback on your child’s English Learning Journey so far.
The workshop was designed to inform parents about the transition from Junior School literacy lessons to how English Literature and Language are taught in a combined manner from the very beginning of Key Stage 3, and to explain the curriculum in Year 7 specifically.
We also looked at the Key Stage 3 assessments, our marking of them, and how this would set up Year 7 students for success at IGCSE and beyond. The English Department emphasised the importance of children reading at home for pleasure in order to support their learning at school.
We have sent the PowerPoint slides to all Year 7 parents and a (non-definitive) recommended reading list home as well.
