Welcome to the half-term edition of The Lion!
It is hard to believe that half term is almost upon us already. How quickly the first eight weeks of a characteristically busy and productive Michaelmas Term have passed.
Sports and Colours Awards Ceremony
As we reach this pause in the term, it was most fitting that we hosted the inaugural Sports and Colours Awards Evening on Tuesday. This pioneering occasion was graced by the presence of Mr Mahela Jayawardene, Former Captain of the Sri Lankan Cricket Team and ‘Wisden Cricketer of the Year’. How wonderful it was to have such a figure of inspiration, innovation and determination as our Guest of Honour on an occasion that marked the significant successes of our remarkable sportsmen and women as well as those who contribute to the outstanding reputation of the school in areas other than academic endeavour.
Our evening was one of great pride for us all and I must thank Mr Newbold and his team for making this innovative event one we will remember. I must also thank the out-going Sports and Games Captains for their steadfast support and inspirational leadership over a year that was the most successful to date for the British School in Colombo’s sports teams. I also wish our newly elected Captains a year of success.
Interact Installation
The students of the British School in Colombo are remarkable in their contribution and support of numerous charitable and social service initiatives. On Thursday we celebrated the installation of this year’s Interact Committee. I wish our newly elected Committee every success in the year ahead.
UN Day
We celebrated the rich diversity of our international learning community on Thursday. I must thank our tireless PTA Committee and the many parent volunteers whose kind contributions and support made the ever popular and greatly appreciated Food Fair such a success. Thank you all, from all of us in the Senior School; your kindness is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all for your many contributions and tireless support of the School’s endeavours over the last eight weeks. I do hope that you enjoy a wonderful half-term break!
I look forward to seeing you when the Michaelmas Term recommences on Monday 29th October.
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
