Congratulations are in order for members of our Under 20 Boys Football Team who emerged victorious in their Consolation Final against Lyceum Nugegoda, at the end of a very busy Tournament organised by Elizabeth Moir School. This was a particularly special victory for our players in Year 13, who, as they look toward their Graduation at the end of this academic year, secure a well-deserved victory. Congratulations to our players and particular thanks and congratulations to members of Year 11 and 13 who worked hard to support BSC at this very busy time.
Further congratulations and celebration were in order last Wednesday in recognition of outstanding IGCSE and A Level Examination success for students who completed their respective examinations in the June 2017 Examination Series. It was a pleasure to join students and their patents as they received 40 separate awards for world-class success at the Annual Outstanding Cambridge Learner Awards, Sri Lanka, held at the prestigious Nelum Pokuna Mahinda Rajapakse Theatre on Wednesday evening.
Our students were recognised for their achievement at IGCSE and A Level in the following categories: Top in Sri Lanka, awarded to the learner who has achieved the highest standard mark in an individual subject; Best Across, awarded to learners who have achieved the first, second or third highest cumulative marks in Sri Lanka over a range of IGCSEs or A Levels; High Achievement, given to the learner who has achieved the highest standard mark in Sri Lanka in an individual subject.
It was a particular pleasure to see members of our Alumni’s parents who proudly collected awards on behalf of their sons and daughters who are busily completing their first term as undergraduates all over the world. We are extremely proud of all of our award winners whose performances are truly inspirational. Congratulations once again to our students, their parents and our teachers.
The Commerce Department ended the week with a Non-Uniform Day. This special day marks an ongoing commitment to raising funds for the Apeksha Hospital. I am always very touched by the dedication, compassion and commitment demonstrated by our community in the many endeavours undertaken to support our local community.
As the Michaelmas Term continues to pass quickly, I would like to remind students and their families that tickets to the annual Christmas Carnival are on sale at school throughout the week. Taking place on Saturday 9th December, this year’s event, Winter Wonderland promises to be another fun-filled and memorable event. I thank the PTA Committee for their tireless work organizing this event and I look forward to seeing you there!
I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion.
With my best wishes,
Simon Harwood
