Our debaters have been having a marvelous start to this academic year, having already reached one Final at the previously held ‘Lillian Nixon Championship’ just last month.
Over the Half-Term break, our teams led by Avantha and Monika, attended an extremely enriching training session for debates hosted by the Bishop's College and held at their Auditorium, where the ‘Debater's Council of Sri Lanka’ were on hand to train our best orators.
Next, our teams initiated a friendly round of debates with AIS, so that both schools could warm-up before a weekend of debates at HFC, Bambalapitiya. At this competition, we took three teams, and they were as follows:
Team A: Avantha, Janek, Aditi
Team B: Yenuli, Prisha, Sara
Team C: Swaarthi, Nandini, Mukesh
Team B were fresh off their Final from Lillian Nixon, and did well to gain more practice at the HFC competition, and Team A were experimenting with their speaking order to enlarge an already growing pool of hopeful debaters for the school’s best and strongest team. They did so well to defeat very tough teams such as CIS and Lyceum, and we are all very proud of their growth as orators. Team C consisted of students from Year 8 and 9, and in adding them into our pool of students for Inter-School events, we have strengthened our options for future debates, which is excellent to see.
Our Society is now preparing for the Moir Debating Challenge which is to be held in January next year, and I could not be more pleased with the dedication with which our students are training for this, and other upcoming competitions.
