Our Silver students ranging from Year 11 to 13, participated in their qualifying journey from August 17th to 19th and had much to share upon their arrival. It was a challenging, testing yet an exciting time for EVERY member of the group. The weather conditions ranged from sunny to misty and rain throughout the three days of their time at Knuckles but none would complain about the difficulties as the individual and group effort required to complete an arduous expedition was more compelling than complaining about the difficulties which they labelled as “minor”.
It is well noted that the preparation for a qualifying journey in the International Award is a challenging one. Whilst the majority of our school community was still on holiday mode, students enrolled as “Silver” participants prepared for their Knuckles journey paying attention to physical agility and mental strength. Having completed their Hanthana journey at the start of the Summer holiday gave them a taste of what the qualifying journey would be.
One student recalled Knuckles to be “Utopia”, the ultimate experience of a lifetime! Listening to the reflections and presentations made by this group demonstrated that each student “transformed” in the process of competing their Award. Students’ perseverance, resilience, team work and understanding of one’s true self were encapsulated in their own personal reflections and these are true markings of one’s changes in life.
We are indeed proud of our batch of Silver participants’ performances and it has been a rewarding experience for us as Award Leaders to witness the positive changes in young individuals in our school community.
The impact of the Award is immeasurable and the images captured at Knuckles are priceless – as each one has a story to tell.
