It is wonderful to share this lovely photograph featured on the Lion Newsletter of our Year 11's celebrating the end of their IGCSE Examinations. A great day was had by all! The End of Term Examinations season drew to a close this week, with students in Years 7, 8, 9 and 10 completing a very busy timetable of assessments to end the year. Although it is hard to believe that the end of the academic year is almost upon us, I must congratulate all Senior School students for the positive, mature and purposeful way they approached their examinations. As I type, final reports for the year are being compiled and will be released to students on Wednesday 28th June to be brought home to parents.

The Cambridge International Examinations Series has also come to a successful close for BSC students and I wish all of our candidates a very well-deserved break! I am sure that all public examination candidates and their parents will join me in extending our sincere gratitude to our tireless Examinations Officer, Ms Savanthi De Silva, who has ensured that our candidates were fully informed about all examination procedures, compiled all entries and ensured that our candidates were able to complete their examinations successfully. The British School is proud to be an independent Cambridge International Examinations Centre, where our students are able to face the challenges of the IGCSE and A Level Examinations in familiar surroundings; Ms Savanthi’s role is key to this. Thank you, Ms Savanthi!

On Monday, our Year 11 IGCSE candidates celebrated the end of their examination period with the annual Year 11 Trip, organised by our Key Stage 4 Coordinator, Mr Kevin Rajamohan and his team of Year 11 Form Tutors. As you will see later in the newsletter, they marked the end of their examinations in style and had a wonderful day!

As the week draws to a close, we must also bid ‘bon voyage’ to our students and teachers in the Science Department who will be leaving for Singapore early on Sunday morning to participate in the annual Science Camp at the word-renowned and top ranking National University of Singapore. This has become a long-standing annual event for the British School, valued for the excellent exposure it allows our students to learn in state-of-the-art facilities, to be taught by professionals at the cutting-edge of their fields and to experience potential university life. Experiences such as this really do enhance future university applications as students are able to draw on specific experiences and insights as potential undergraduates. I am grateful to all parents involved who continue to support this venture and I am grateful to Ms Vishunika and Ms Dilini, our Scientists who will be accompanying our students this year. I look forward to hearing all about your visit upon your return.

On Friday, our School Counselor, Ms Jehan, presented a very useful follow up to the workshop she delivered to parents earlier in the term exploring the risks of over-exposure to the use of devices. Presenting to all Senior School students, this was a timely reflection on the importance of sensible device use in a world where we rely more and more on electronic and digital means of communication. If you would like to discuss this issue, or indeed any issue concerning your child’s well-being, please do not hesitate to contact Ms Jehan on: [email protected] .

Things seem to be heading very quickly heading toward the end of the year and all arrangements for the Year 13 Graduation Ceremony have been confirmed. The Ceremony takes place on Friday 23rd June 2017 at 1.00pm. We expect all students in Years 10, 11 and 12 to attend in their formal uniform as explained in my previous communications. As also explained in my previous communications, there is a change in the arrangements for students in Years 7, 8 and 9 on the day of the Graduation Ceremony, when Key Stage 3 students should be collected from school at 11.45am, I am most grateful for your support in this as it allows all staff to attend this special ceremony.

I hope you enjoy this edition of The Lion. Have a wonderful weekend.

Best wishes,

Simon Harwood

Deputy Principal (Head of Senior School)
